The statewide indefinite strike launched by the All Assam Nurses' Association (AANA) continues for day-4 on Thursday, which has badly affected the normal functioning of medical college hospitals across Assam.
According to reports, surgeries of serious patients have also been affected in JMCH and AMCH and rescheduled due to the protest, which forced the hospital authorities to engage medical students.
It has also been reported that a pregnant woman died at JMCH on Wednesday. Identified as Pinky Kaha, allegedly died at JMCH following delay of surgery due to lack of nurses in the hospital. In another incident at Sivasagar, a young girl also died following the same situation in hospital.
Earlier on Wednesday, several nurses were detained at different districts of Assam.
It should be noted that, State Health Minister Pijush Hazarika called a meeting with the protesters to solve their problems, after-which the representative body of AANA visited the office of Pijush Hazarika. However, at the last moment the minister had cancelled his appointment with AANA's representative body.
