As per data published on government portal 'Praapti', Assam owes an amount of Rs 248 crore dues to power generation companies.
10 states – Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Maharashtra, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Haryana have been named "worst" in terms of clearing dues of power generation companies by state-owned discoms.
These states owed a total amount of Rs 32,024 crore in February, 2018.
Among the other northeastern states, Arunachal Pradesh owes an amount of Rs 16 crore while Meghalaya owes Rs 273 crore.
