Not only Guwahati, but the fervor of Lakshmi Puja can also be witnessed across Assam. Flower vendors have lined up by the streets with banana plants, flowers and various requirements for the puja.

In West Bengal, Orissa and Assam, the most important day to worship Goddess Lakshmi fall on the full moon day in the lunar month of Ashvin. Most people in India worship Goddess Lakshmi on Amavasya Tithi during Diwali.

Devotees of Goddess Lakshmi wake up early in the morning, prepare delicious bhog and prasad and observe fast on this pious occasion. The bhog and prasad are offered to the deity in the grand puja that is performed in the evening.
