Assam Renowned Artist Neel Pawan Baruah gets Discharge from GMCH

Prominent painter and illustrator from Assam Neel Pawan Baruah got discharged from Gauhati Medical College and Hospital on Friday.

The painter tested positive for Covid-19 in the night of June 4 and was admitted in GMCH. As reported, he was also suffering from high blood pressure and Alzheimer's disease.

Today, the eminent painter has been allowed to go home from the hospital.

Marking the improvement in health of Neel Pawan Baruah, Principal of GMCH and physicians bid farewell to the much honoured painter with Fulam Gamusa.

Notably, Neel Pawan Baruah is the founder artist of the Assam Fine Arts and Craft Society and a permanent resident of Guwahati.

Around 87 paintings by the Neel Pawan Baruah are on display at the State Art Gallery as part of an exhibition titled 'Neel Pawan Baruah- an exhibition of paintings.' This was an initiative undertaken by the Nabakanta Baruah Foundation in 2012. The 87 paintings which are on display are a part of his collection that was composed in the last 10 to 15 years. Baruah is considered a genius for using unusual mediums to portray his paintings.

It needs to be mentioned that Baruah has used Charminar cigarette packs as a medium and made the bright amber coloured cover glistens more with the forms and caricatures of figures etched in it. The famous painter is also renowned for his unique talent where he rendered dull cardboard matchboxes into something interesting through his artistic dexterity.
