Assam Sends Back 18 Bangladeshis After Legal Proceedings
The Assam government on Saturday night repatriated 18 Bangladeshi nationals, including women and children, through the international border in Sribhumi district.
The group had been detained by the police over the past several days in two districts—Cachar and Sribhumi. Of the total, 11 individuals were apprehended in Cachar, while 7 were arrested in Sribhumi.
Following completion of all legal and administrative formalities, the state authorities facilitated their return to Bangladesh through an authorised border checkpoint.
According to official sources, the individuals had entered India without valid travel documents and were staying illegally in different parts of southern Assam. “All legal protocols were duly followed before their deportation,” a senior police officer said.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took to his official 'X' handle, saying, "Oh look who's going back to their home? In Assam, we welcome guests with open arms, but those trying to illegally prolong their stay are treated with the special gesture of PUSHBACK. 18 illegal Bangladeshis pushed back today in wee hours from Cachar and Sribhumi."

Meanwhile, police in Cachar have arrested over 100 Bangladeshi nationals in recent weeks amid an intensified crackdown on illegal infiltration across the Indo-Bangladesh border.
Security has been heightened across vulnerable areas of the international boundary in view of the rising number of such cases.
