Balanced and Positive: Conrad on Budget 2019

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma on Friday termed the Union Budget 2019-20 as "balanced" and "positive". Sangma said that increased budget allocation for DoNER to Rs. 3000 crore is a gesture that the Government of India is extending its continued support to ensure the development and thrust to the Northeastern region.

He also expressed his positive remark for increase allocation under North East Road Sector Development Scheme from Rs. 391 crore of 2018-19 to Rs. 666 crore in 2019-20. CM Sangma also said that the budget is very positive as it shows a substantial increase in funds for infrastructure and road. "Increase of North East Special Infrastructure Development Scheme from Rs. 140 crore of 2018-19 to Rs. 695 crore 2019-20 will enable the different States of Northeast to further initiate large infrastructure activities," he said.

Sangma also expressed optimism on the decision of the Centrefor the new education policy that would propose changes in school and highereducation.

It may be mentioned here that Assam CM SarbanandaSonowal has also hailed the Union Budget 2019-20 and said that it is a"pro-people and pro-poor" budget and it will be a great boost to expedite the progressof the poor and middle class of the country.

However, several organisations and political leadersincluding Pradyut Bordoloi, Prafulla Mahanta and Indian Tea Association (ITA)have expressed their unhappiness over the Union Budget 2019-20 presented by NirmalaSitharaman.
