The Barak Valley Coordination Committee of the BJP will meetHome Minister Amit Shah in Guwahati demanding legislative action to protectbonafide citizens whose names did not figure in the final updated list of theNational Register of Citizens (NRC).
Shah has arrived on a two-day visit to the State today. He willchair the 68th plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC).
Chairman of the committee, Kabindra Purakayastha informed thata representative team of the committee members including Silchar MP Dr RajdeepRoy and other leaders have decided to meet Shah when the latter arrives atGuwahati on September 8 and submit a charter of demands including a relook intothe anomalies in the published NRC and also a plea to get the CitizenshipAmendment Bill (CAB) passed in the next Parliament session.
Purakayastha informed that the committee has decided in thespecial meeting held at the BJP office here that steps would be taken toprovide free legal assistance to the NRC left-outs.
