Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to praise Belona village in Barpeta district of Assam saying that cleanliness powered by community initiatives is always wonderful to see.

Chief MinisterSarbananda Sonowal said, "A community coming together to walk on the path ofSwacchata, the people of Belona has shown how conscious collective effort can#BeatPlasticPollution."

The villagehas earned the distinction of becoming the first 'Clean and Green Village' inthe state of Assam. Following the principle of Swachhata and shunningsingle-use plastic, Belona village has become an ideal example of a clean andgreen village.

The localsalso imposed fine of Rs. 500 on people who are seen using single-use plastic.
