Assam daughters Lovlina Borgohain (69kg) and Pwilao Basumatary (64kg) won bronze medals at 70th Strandja Memorial Boxing at Sofia in Bulgaria on Monday.

Lovlina went down 1-4 against Nien-Chin Chen of Taipei and settled for bronze, while Pwilao Basumatary lost against Italy's Valentina Alberti by 5-0. In the quarter-final match of the event Lovlina defeated Brazil's Soarez Beatriz 5-0 on Sunday and assured the first medal for the women boxers of India.
Earlier, Lovlina had brought laurels to Assam by winning bronze medal at the 2018 AIBA World Women Boxing Championships held in New Delhi. The 21-year old pugilist hails from Golaghat district.
