CAB: Fearing protest, CM skips programme at GU

Fearing protests by thestudents of Gauhati University (GU) opposing the Centre's decision to introduceCitizenship Amendment Bill, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturdayevening skipped a programme at the university campus.

According to reports, CM Sonowal was scheduled to take part in a programme at the university campus but cancelled it fearing protest by the student of the university. He even changed the route from Guwahati LGBI airport and went directly to Sarusajai stadium through the Deepor Beel area instead of passing through the GU road.

Meanwhile, the students of Cotton University along with the students of other colleges and institutes staged a massive torchlight rally against the CAB in the heart of Guwahati city on Saturday.
