The All Assam Students' Union (AASU) and other indigenous organizations on Wednesday carried Bajra Ninad, a massive protest against the much debated Citizenship (Amendment) Bill at Latasil playground in Guwahati.
Addressing the gathering at Latasil playground, the AASU advisor Samujjal Kumar Bhattacharya said that the CAB is a threat to the people of the North- Eastern states of India. He also acknowledged Chief Ministers of Meghalaya and Mizoram for their stand against the Bill.
"This is a communal as well as an unconstitutional Bill," said Bhattacharya, adding, "Before implementing the Bill, the Prime Minister should make it public, how much letters he has received so far citing religious persecution in Bangladesh."
The AASU advisor also said that the organisation will not let Assam become another Tripura. "We need constitutional safeguard," said the senior leader adding that "There is no point in implementing Clause VI of Assam Accord, unless the implementation of Clause V."
"Once Sarbananda Sonowal was the president of AASU and he himself took to the street demanding justice to the people of Assam; was it wrong?" asked the senior leader.
Samujjal Bhattacharya announced that AASU will organise Raij Sabha and Gaon Sabha at every village and every suburb across the State from Thursday.
It should be noted that all ethnic organisations of Assam, artists and intelligentsia wholeheartedly extended cooperation in the protest.
