"The Assamese people are not going to benefit much, even if Bangladesh is kept out of the purview of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016," said Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) leader Akhil Gogoi. Addressing a press-meet KMSS HQ, Gogoi said that KMSS will continue their protest against the Bill.
Gogoi further added that, Bangladesh should be removed from the notification issued by the Government of India on September 7, 2015 as well as from Passport Act and Foreigners Act, so that no illegal immigrants could enter Assam.
The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) is likely to recommend an amendment to the CAB by taking Bangladesh out of the Bill. The JPC will submit its report to the Parliament and a final meeting will be held on November 20 in New Delhi.
On the other hand, when asked about Assam Public Service Commission (APSC), Gogoi said, "We are not happy with the result. Corruption is still rampant in the Commission. We are not happy with Surjeet Singh Panesar and the team investigating the cash-for-job scam. A biased investigation is going on."
