The cow smugglingcontinuing unabated in Assam and fresh new cases have been reported every dayfrom different parts of the state.

In a recent case inKukurmara area of South Kamrup, a truck carrying cattle has been seized. Localsof Kukurmara seized the truck bearing No AS01GC-8538 and handed over to police.Kukurmara police have detained two persons including the driver of the truckfor interrogation.

Police detainedthe owner of the cattle Najar Ali and driver Aaiban Ranghang who hails fromNalbari and Meghalaya respectively.

On the otherhand, cattle smuggling is taking place in the state through waterways in UpperAssam and in a fresh new case on Sunday, more than 30 cattle have smuggled toBangladesh by a boat with registration no AS23CC1676 from Amarpur Ghat inSadiya.

The cattlesmugglers have absconded with the cows when the Bir Lachit Sena, Sadiya unit wentto grab the smugglers. It has been alleged by Bir Lachit Senas' that althoughthey have reportedly informed the police about the cattle syndicate that isgoing on, the police has not given any interest in the issue for which thecattle smuggling is still continued in the state.

It may bementioned that, earlier the cattle were being carried via Bogibeel Bridge butafter some local organizations repeatedly stopped them from being carrying thecows, the smugglers used to show them pistols and smuggled the cows viawaterways.

Meanwhile, when the people of Assam are suffering from the devastating flood, there are some miscreants who took advantage of the flood and smuggled cows in large quantity through Indo-Bangladesh border in Dhubri and South Salmara. It may be mentioned that police have recovered 67 numbers of cattle from the border area. Officer-in-charge of South Salmara, Abul Kalam Azad said that the cows have been recovered during an operation after they were being informed by sources. He also said that they have arrested three persons in connection to cattle syndicate.
