CM Sarma Inaugurates Major Sports and Industrial Projects in Golaghat

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited Golaghat on Monday as part of a day-long official tour and inaugurated key development projects aimed at boosting the district’s sports and industrial landscape.

Among the key highlights of the visit, early in the day, the Chief Minister formally inaugurated a newly constructed indoor stadium built at a cost of Rs 7.94 crore under the Golaghat District Sports Association. The state-of-the-art facility features six table tennis boards and five badminton courts. CM Sarma also inaugurated the new sports complex, built on the premises of the Bezbaruah Higher Secondary School at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore.

Before the official events, he offered prayers at the historic Athkhelia Naamghar and Trishul Mandir in Golaghat, marking a spiritual beginning to the day’s engagements.

Later in the day, the Chief Minister chaired a high-level discussion with senior officials of the Numaligarh Refinery, ministers and MPs. The meeting was in preparation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming visit likely on September 8, during which he is scheduled to inaugurate the country's first bamboo-based ethanol plant. CM Sarma took stock of the preparations and issued necessary instructions. Further, he also inaugurated the Dhansiri Nagar township for refinery staff. 

Later in the evening, the Chief Minister visited Bokakhat to enquire about the health of three constables of the 11th APBn, Siddhartha Barbaruah, Sushil Bhowmick and Mintu Hazarika, who were injured in the grenade blast in Panbari on June 4. After meeting the injured personnel at the Circuit House in Bokakhat, he directed the Superintendent of Police (SP) to immediately shift them to Guwahati for advanced medical treatment.
