Commissioner& Secretary of Cultural Affairs department Pritam Saikia instructed thePublic Works Department (PWD) to complete the ongoing renovation and modernizationwork of Rabindra Bhawan to complete by November 28, informed Bishnu Kumar Bora,Director of Cultural Affairs Department.
Bora informed that different organizations have booked the auditorium of Rabindra Bhawan for various programmes to be held in December and January, 2020 but the cultural affairs department has not been able to provide any written agreement to the organizations as the PWD department has not completed the renovation work.
On the other hand, the organizations have also faced problems as the Rabindra Bhawan authorities have not provided any assurance whether they would be able to give the hall to conduct the programmes.
A section of people who booked the hall for some programmes also expressed anger as the authorities have not assured them whether they will be able to complete the work on time. They said that renovation work is necessary but it does not require two years to complete the work and now it has been more than two years that the work remains incomplete.
It may also be mentioned that the cultural affairs department has organized two programmes on October 25 and November 5 to examine the hall and although the programmes went off successfully there was some problems in the acoustic sound system which was later solved.
Moreover,Bora informed that 95 percent of work has been completed and that the remainingwork will be completed soon.
