Leader of opposition in Assam legislative Assembly, MLA from Nazira Constituency Debabrata Saikia urged Chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal to quit the saffron party and figure a new government with Congress' support.
Describing the prevailing situation of the state, Saikia said that "CM Sonowal should leave BJP and come out with even just 40 of his MLAs. Congress has 25 legislators in the 126-member House. We can take support from the regional party AGP and other parties to form new government.
On the other hand, AGP leaders reiterated that they may restore its alliance with BJP if the Citizenship Amendment Bill is scrapped.
AGP president Atul Bora said, "If the government scraps the Bill, we may reassess our alliance with BJP. We will keenly observe their activities."
