Following the recent incident in Assam’s Golaghat district where a bottle was allegedly thrown at Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s convoy, a high-level delegation of the Assam Congress paid a visit to the Golaghat Police Station on Wednesday to meet the detained youths.
Acting on the directive of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President Gaurav Gogoi, a high-level party delegation visited the detained members.
The delegation met with the detained Youth Congress workers as well as their family members, reassuring them that they are not alone in this legal and political ordeal. The party leaders asserted their full support to the arrested individuals and condemned the prolonged detention.
In addition to the solidarity visit, the Congress delegation also met with the Additional Superintendent of Police to gather detailed information regarding the status of the case and the legal proceedings underway.
The team included APCC Working President Jakir Hussain Sikdar, APCC Working President Roselina Tirkey, MLAs Sibamoni Bora and Bhaskar Baruah, alongside senior Congress office-bearers and district Congress presidents.
Despite the release of four Youth Congress members who were earlier detained for allegedly throwing a plastic bottle at the Chief Minister's convoy, five others remain in police custody.
Earlier, Congress leader Mira Borthakur hit out at the Assam government and state police. Sharing a slow-motion clip of the incident, she said the police were arresting people randomly without properly identifying who actually threw the bottle.
