Congress To Restore Special Status of Assam

Senior Congress leader Bhubaneswar Kalita on Wednesday said that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill would have been passed in Rajya Sabha by the BJP government if the Congress-led Opposition was not there.

Addressing a press conference in Nalbari, Kalita said that "The Congress-led Opposition stood firm and remained as a strong wall, otherwise, they were determined to pass the Bill."

"If the grand old party comes to power, it would restore the special status for Assam" : Kalita said.

 "Our government had given Special Status to Assam. But, BJP took that away from Assam. When we come back to power, Special Status for Assam will be restored." Kalita added.
