In collaboration with Mirai Japanese Learning Centre, Dibrugarh University commenced Japanese language classes on Monday for the first batch of 35 students enrolled under the Assam CM’s Foreign Language Initiative for Global Human Talent (CM-FLIGHT) Scheme for 2025–26.

The initiative marks a significant step in preparing Assamese youth for global employment opportunities, particularly in Japan.

The collaboration was formalised through an MoU signed on Sept 13 between Dibrugarh University and Mirai Japanese Learning Centre.

The partnership aims to introduce tailored Japanese language courses that will enable students to meet the growing demand for skilled professionals in Japanese-speaking markets.

“This collaboration with Mirai is a significant milestone for Dibrugarh University, marking a step forward in our commitment to offering world-class opportunities and education for our students,” Dibrugarh University vice-chancellor Jiten Hazarika said.

The CM-FLIGHT scheme is an ambitious Assam govt initiative designed to prepare youth for overseas employment through foreign language and skill training.

The pilot programme focuses on Japan, providing Japanese language training and job placement support under Japan’s Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) visa programme.

The scheme targets sectors with high demand in Japan, including construction, nursing care, food service, hospitality, healthcare, manufacturing, and food processing.

The scheme offers substantial financial assistance, with govt covering significant training costs and providing additional support for post-placement relocation and visa processing.

To be eligible, applicants must be permanent residents of Assam, aged between 18 and 45 years, medically fit, and possess relevant skills and education.

The initiative is expected to strengthen Indo-Japan collaboration, enhance Assam’s economy through remittances and skill transfer, and expand to other countries and languages in subsequent phases, broadening horizons for the state’s youth in international job markets.
