ECI likely to announce LS poll schedule today

The Election Commission of India (ECI) will address a press conference on Sunday evening at 5PM, where it will likely to make formal announcement on the dates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

The model code of conduct will come into effect immediately after the ECI makes the announcement.

Notably, the ECI on Saturday asked the political parties to desist from making references to the armed forces in their political campaign. Also as per new rules introduced by the ECI, candidates will have to give details of their properties abroad, besides those in the country.

The term of the present Lok Sabha ends on June 3.
