Electricity bills to increase in Assam

Bad news for people of Assam as they are going to cough up more on the electricity bill as the Assam Government today replaced electricity duty of 20 paise per unit with 5% overall energy charge.

This means in all earlier bills there was a fixed charge 20 paisa per unit but now it will be compounded with 5% overall energy charges. This is surely not going to go well with the people of Assam.

The Assam Government had proposed the bill on Monday during which Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the government plans to have the electricity duty at an ad-valorem duty of five per cent.
