At a time when the National Register of Citizens (NRC) has united many families, in the meantime it is also breaking families of the future.

A family from Nayagram village in Silchar called off their daughter's wedding after the prospective groom could not provide his citizenship certificate.
Dilwar Hussain Laskar (30) and Ravina from the village had been in a relationship for quite some time. They had approached their families seeking their blessings. Their families agreed and set a date for the wedding.
However, Ravina's family cancelled the wedding at the last moment as the would-be groom failed to produce his citizenship documents. Her family said it would accept their marriage only if Dilwar could prove he was not an illegal immigrant.
The matter didn't end here as startling revelations popped out when Ravina's father approached the Silchar Sadar Police station on Saturday and filed an FIR against his would be son-in-law for allegedly 'kidnapping' his daughter.
The police said they were searching for the duo. Except for Dilwar, the names of all his family members allegedly figured in the NRC. The family is hopeful he will be included in the final NRC to be published on August 31.
