A massive fire broke out at the century-old 'Church of God' in the Qualapatty area in Shillong on Sunday morning. The fire broke out at around 3 AM and completely gutted the church.
However,the reason behind the fire is yet to be ascertained. An adjoining building wasalso gutted in the fire.
"Though we have informed the fire and emergency service immediately after the incident, the fire got completely out of control as there were fewer fire tenders to attend the emergency situation," said a local.
It may be mentioned here that the Church of God was established in 1902. Unlike foreign-sponsored Christian organizations, the Church of God began from scratch and the pioneers carried out the mission work voluntarily for a good number of years.
