Seven arrested in Tinsukia firing incident

In a shocking incident of firing at a commercial establishment in Tinsukia which killed two people has stirred an outrage in the area. The police said that suspected gunmen fired at a grocery shop on Friday late evening.

The incident took place at Uday Chand Agarwal's shop in Rupai of eastern Assam's Tinsukia district, said the police.

According to locals, two gunmen came to the shop and fired randomly, leading to immediate deaths of two. One of the deceased has been identified as Ramakanta Deori who was a customer and the other as Jeet Varma who was an employee at the shop.

With speculations spreading across the region that the anti-talk faction of ULFA militants is involved in the incident, the police term it as incident of robbery.

According to reports, one suspected ULFA militant Rupantar Moran has been detained by the police with interrogation for more details is still on.

As a protest against the incident, Marwari Yuva Manch and Marwari Sanmilan call for a 24 hour Doom Dooma Bandh on Saturday. The impact of the bandh can be seen extensively in the region.
