Flood hits Kaziranga National Park

Around 80 per cent of Kaziranga National Park's total mass area has been reeling under the first wave of the flood of this year.

Kohora, Bagori and Agoratoli forest area have been affected by the flood, but the Burapahar area is the worst affected.

Animals have been migrating from low lying areas in search of elevated plains. The forestofficials have been using boats to travel within the park area.

It may be mentioned here that to mitigate flood impact, the KNP authorities have undertaken a number of measures. They have set-upa barricade at NH-37, which will help them to check the speed limits of thevehicles passing through the highway.

Time cards wouldalso be issued if the water level increases further and the authorities haveasked people to check their speed while passing through the highway.

It was also knownthat for protection of the wild animals, the forest officials would put strictvigil and conduct regular patrolling in the area.
