Gaurav Gogoi Assembles Core Team as Assam Poll Strategy Takes Shape
Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi will chair a crucial strategy meeting this evening with the five newly appointed heads of key committees formed for the 2026 Assembly elections. This will be the first joint sitting between Gogoi and the top leaders tasked with steering the party’s poll preparations.
The meeting is scheduled for 7 PM at Rajiv Bhawan, the party’s state headquarters in Guwahati.
Those expected to attend include:
-
Bhupen Borah, Chairman of the Election Campaign Committee
-
Debabrata Saikia, Chairman of the Coordination Committee
-
Pradyut Bordoloi, Chairman of the Manifesto Committee
-
Rakibul Hussain, Chairman of the Publicity Committee
-
Ripun Bora, Chairman of the Election Management Committee
According to party sources, the meeting will focus on finalising the next phase of the Congress party’s election roadmap. Discussions are also expected to centre around prospective alliances and pre-poll seat-sharing arrangements with like-minded parties.
The strategy session comes at a time when the party is attempting to regroup and galvanise its organisational machinery across Assam, with an eye on consolidating the opposition space ahead of the 2026 polls.
The leaders are also likely to discuss preparations for the proposed visit of AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge to Assam, which is expected to bolster the party's campaign momentum.
The formation of the five committees marks a renewed push by the Congress high command to strengthen its state unit and lay early groundwork for a formidable electoral fight in Assam.
