Gaurav Gogoi Explodes: “CM is Acting Like a Real Estate Broker”
Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) President and Lok Sabha MP Gaurav Gogoi on Wednesday launched a scathing attack on the BJP-led state government, accusing Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of turning into a "real estate broker" and gifting thousands of acres of land to industrialists at the cost of the poor and marginalized.
Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Gogoi said the Congress party stands firmly with the people of Assam who are "living under a regime of fear and terror." He alleged that tribals, minorities, and the economically vulnerable are being systematically displaced under the BJP’s rule.
“The message is very clear — the Congress party in Assam will fight for justice for all people who are facing persecution by this corrupt and cruel BJP government,” said Gogoi.
Gogoi claimed that nearly 17,000 acres of land have been handed over to "outside industrialists" without consulting local communities. He accused the Chief Minister of ignoring the rights and sentiments of indigenous people.
“The CM of Assam is acting like a real estate broker. He is grabbing land from the poor and donating it to outsiders,” Gogoi alleged.
The Congress leader said that Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi have visited Assam to send a strong message that the people of the state need not live in fear.
“We are not going to be silent spectators while the government bulldozes people's rights. The Congress will fight for the self-respect, dignity, and land rights of the people of Assam,” Gogoi asserted.
His remarks come amid mounting criticism of recent land allocation policies by the Assam government, especially in tribal and minority-dominated areas. Gogoi’s statement is being seen as an aggressive attempt by the Congress to reclaim lost political ground by mobilizing support around issues of land, livelihood, and identity.
The BJP is yet to respond to the fresh round of allegations.
