GEC not obeying AICTE order

Due to alleged ignorance of the government as well as the Education Department of Assam, as many as 92 students of Golaghat Engineering College (GEC) are facing a bleak future.

The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) has directed the GEC authority to shut down the institution with immediate effect.

Reportedly, AICTE directed GEC to distribute the students among five engineering colleges in the state while the GEC authority is gearing up for its next academic session.

As per reports, a delegation of experts inspected the college on March 4, 2019. After that, the college was denied recognition in an official letter issued on April 30, 2019, for not submitting verified documents. Notably, the college was inaugurated by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in February 2019 before the Parliamentary election.

The college built at a cost of Rs 50 crore spreading over 30.85 bighas, is the sixth engineering college in the State with a capacity of 180 students. The first batch of students got admitted to this college in August 2018.
