Guwahati: 184 Inmates of Central Jail Test COVID-19+

The Guwahati Central Jail has turned into a COVID-19 hotspot as 184 cases have been detected on Thursday itself, tweeted state health and family welfare minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

A total of 892 cases of coronavirus were detected yesterday out of which 598 are from Guwahati which 184 from the jail alone.

According to reports, out of the 184 inmates that were reported to be infected with the virus, only 60 patients have been shifted to the hospital on Thursday night and the others will be shifted today.

A total of 328 inmates have been tested positive for COVID-19 at Guwahati Central Jail.

The minister in his tweet said, "Alert ~ 892 new #COVID19 ve+ patients in Assam. Out of these, 598 patients are from Kamrup (Metro), which include 184 from Guwahati Jail."

Owing to many inmates of the Guwahati Central Jail getting infected by COVID-19, Kamrup Metro Administration has declared the said jail to be a containment zone for two times.

It has defined the borders of the containment zone. To east, the limit will be the SSB Camp-Assam Police plot. To the west, the border will be the main gate.

On the northern side, Coffee Board's office will be the limit. And to the south, the road adjacent to the jail will be the extent.

However, the jail authority earlier said that 95% of the inmates have been infected with the deadly virus.
