The honey trapping incident in Ambari area of Guwahati, which came to light on Sunday (May 26, 2019) took a sensational twist after a Sub-Inspector of Latasil Police Station and a few other police officials of the police station were named to be involved with the entire episode.
Speaking to media persons in Guwahati, Commissioner of Police Deepak Kumar said that after watching the CCTV footages it has been verified that the police vehicle and the policeman seen in the footage are indeed from Latasil PS and probe has been initiated against the accused.
"However, since no official complaint has been registered yet against the accused, hence no action is taken against them so far," Kumar added.
It may be mentioned here that so far four officials from the Latasil PS have been identified to be involved with the alleged flesh trade-cum-honey-trapping racket, which includes one home guard as well.
It has been informed that the said home guard was driving the police vehicle captured in the CCTV footage. However, he is presently absconding.
As per earlier reports, the entire sex-cum-honey-trapping racket came to light on Sunday (May, 26, 2019) through a CCTV capture of the Guwahati Press Club from the previous night- Saturday, May 25, 2019.
In the footage it was clearly seen that two boys and three girls and a lady got down from a vehicle. The girls and the boys entered Vastra Bhawan- the guesthouse of Directorate of Handloom and Textile, situated adjacent to the Guwahati Press Club.
As soon as they entered the guesthouse, the lady (assumed to be the chief of the honey-trapping gang) was seen making a call to someone. After the call was made, a police-patrolling vehicle arrived on the spot. Policemen from the vehicle entered Vastra Bhawan and brought the boys and the girls out from the guesthouse premises.
Later it was seen that the policemen freed the boys after some 'secret' discussions. It is assumed that the policemen in this 'secret' discussion discussed the ransom amount for the boys to go free.
Eyewitnesses informed that even though five people were brought out from the guesthouse premises, only the boys were taken up for questioning and the girls and the lady were let to go without any cross-questions.
A few others also informed that incidents like this have also taken place earlier and it involved the same girls and the lady; only the boys keep on changing.
Questions have been raised if a sex-cum-honey-trapping racket is blossoming under the patronage of Latasil PS and whether if the city police in majority is involved in such illegal activities across the city!
