In a bid topromote e-Commerce in the Northeastern region, the Centre has decided to set uptwo foreign post offices in the region, one in Guwahati and the other inShillong.
According toofficials, the post offices are expected to boost international trade in theregion which has been witnessing a slow pace of trade growth due to lack ofawareness about different facilities and government schemes.
The post officewill be set up at Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Borjhar,as informed by the official. He also said that the opening of the foreign postoffices in the region will promote e-Commerce in the North East in asignificant way. The post offices will have facilities for examination,assessment, clearance etc.
According toreports, the volume of export from the Northeast has decreased from Rs.1,706.09crore in 2015-16 to Rs. 1,649.90crore in 2018-19.
