Guwahati Tea Auction Centre to hold first-ever online sale

In a major decision, the Guwahati Tea Auction Centre (GTAC) has scheduled its 27th auction through an online work from home basis for every buyer and broker, starting from July 1.

In the history of Tea Auctions all across this sale conducted will be one of a kind. It will be a unique auction across India where all stakeholders will participate in the auction from their respective homes due to the complete lockdown imposed by the Assam government.

Priyanuz Dutta, the Secretary of the GTAC, said, "In this sale, we expect to create new records and achieve new heights with the help of the commitment of each and every stakeholder of GTAC", adding, "The quantity on offer at GTAC sale no. 27 is 4.55 Million Kgs and we expect approximately 180 buyers bidding for the same. It has always been an endeavour of GTAC to provide the best tea selling and buying platform and we diligently work towards that single goal".

So far, 225 registered buyers at GTAC out of 80% are active buyers and they are willing to take part in tomorrow's sale from home.

"During this time of crisis, we are working to give uninterrupted services to hold the Auctions as Tea being food items the supply chain continues. There has been a shortage of crops and therefore a crisis of cash flows. The GTAC prices are more remunerative than other Auction Centre. GTAC has become a hub for all Indian Tea retailers which are buying through GTABA members," Dinesh Bihani, Secretary, Guwahati Tea Auction Buyers Association.
