Himanta announces ‘Assam Farmers’ Credit Subsidy Scheme’

Assam Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday announced a special scheme for the farmers in the State. The Minister while addressing a press meet in Guwahati said that as per the scheme, the Assam government will write off 25 per cent loan of farmers up to a maximum of Rs. 25,000 of all farm debts. The scheme will be known as 'Assam Farmers' Credit Subsidy Scheme'.

Sarma said that around 2 lakhs 62 thousands of farmers will be benefitted from the scheme. The government will provide loans upto Rs. 2 lakhs with zero percent interest to the farmers of the State, informed the Minister.

"Due to these schemes, there will be an additional burden of Rs. 500 crore on the State exchequer this fiscal," said the State finance Minister.

He also said that Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will lay the foundation stones of three medical colleges in the State in coming January- Kokrajhar Medical College on January 6, Nalbari Medical College on January 7 and Tinsukia Medical College on January 9.

Himanta also announced that the state government will provide Rs. 2500 to every tea garden worker, who had opened their accounts before demonitisation.
