India is still fastest growing economy: Sitharaman

UnionFinance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday interacted with the taxofficials and other tax sector stakeholders in Guwahati and said that India isstill the fastest growing economy in the world. She also said that NarendraModi-led Centre's priority is to give a boost to consumption.

Despitethe recent economic slowdown Sitharaman said, "If you compare the economiesglobally, then we (the Indian economy) are still the fastest growing."

Shefurther attacked previous UPA governments and said that the UPA rule was markedby higher inflation and one after another scam. "They led the country incorruption and could not control prices," said the Finance Minister.
