Following the deaths of 45 newborns within 20 days at the Jorhat Medical College & Hospital (JMCH), Assam Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Pijush Hazarika on Wednesday visited the Hospital to take stock of the situation.
MinisterHazarika announced to provide seven more doctors to the JMCH at the earliest tomeet the situation.
According to reports, altogether 287 newborns were admitted to the NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) between October 1 to 22 and 45 of them died. This is the highest number of infant deaths this year.
It may be mentioned here that last year, deaths of 23 newborns were reported at the JMCH, which had triggered a sensation across the State.
