Cachar student loses life to Japanese Encephalitis

Japanese Encephalitis (JE) claimed one more life in theState. The victim has been identified as Kamruj Jaman (72) of Turai village inSipajhar and was undergoing treatment in a hospital in Guwahati.

The disease has spread to almost every district of theState killing around more than 70 people. State Health and Family WelfareMinister Himanta Biswa Sarma, however, earlier announced the cancellation ofleaves of all doctors till September 30 in order to combat the disease.

JE is vector-borne encephalitis transmitted by Culexgroups of mosquitoes. These mosquitoes breed mainly in rice fields and largewater bodies rich in aquatic vegetations. Migratory birds along with pigs inthe community play an important role in the transmission of JE from one area toanother area.
