A severe case of artificial flooding has once again gripped Assam’s Jorabat, leading to the complete submergence of National Highway 27. The flood-like situation emerged late on Saturday following a spell of intense rainfall in the region.

According to sources, heavy downpours in the hills triggered rapid surface runoff, causing water to gush downhill and inundate the highway stretch at Jorabat. The sudden surge submerged vast sections of the national highway, disrupting vehicular movement and leaving hundreds of commuters stranded for hours.

Eyewitnesses described the situation as chaotic, with waterlogging reaching dangerous levels in mere minutes. Traffic congestion intensified, as vehicles lined up on either side of the submerged section.
This is not the first time Jorabat has faced artificial flooding. Locals and commuters have repeatedly raised concerns about poor drainage infrastructure and unchecked urban runoff, which exacerbate the situation every monsoon.
