Jorhat gets NE’s first community fridge

Jorhat gets NE’s first community fridge

There's always a good samaritan around who thinks ahead for the greater good of society. Feeding India– one of the country's largest not-for-profit organisations working on a mission to eradicate hunger, malnutrition, and food-wastage has just installed their first community fridge at Kenduguri in Jorhat so that nobody goes hungry.

The refrigerator has been provided by Feeding India's Delhi headquarter and installed in the premises of Sanjay Jha, who will bear the cost of electricity, take care of its security and check on the food regularly.

The community refrigerator 'Happy Fridge' on Sunday was inaugurated by Jorhat superintendent of police (SP) Vaibhav Nimbalkar.

The concept isn't completely new in India. Mumbai and Kochi also have some community fridges that are doing the public a lot of good. But it's the first time in Jorhat as well as Assam-NE, and people are excited about it.

Feeding India works towards getting surplus meals from individuals, communities, weddings, restaurants and corporate cafeterias, as well as prepare freshly cooked meals to serve the underserved.

With the help of their passionate volunteers – Hunger Heroes, along with five key programs, they redistribute nutritious meals to those who don't have adequate or regular access to it.
