Justice Ranjan Gogoi has officially sworn in as the 46th Chief Justice of India (CJI). President Ram Nath Kovind administered the oath of office for Justice Gogoi at a function held in the Rastrapathi Bhavan.
The oath taking ceremony which started at 10:30 am also witnessed family members of Justice Gogoi at the event held at the Durbar Hall.
After swearing-in as the CJI, Justice Gogoi along with SK Kaul and KM Joseph will sit as a three-membered bench for a hearing.
It is noteworthy that Justice Gogoi will have to prioritise the cases of Babri Majid and granting special status to Kashmir.
Gogoi is also the first person from the North East to become the Chief Justice of India. At the Supreme Court, Justice Gogoi is currently monitoring the update process of the NRC.
