Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh accompanied by Ministers and officials inspected the ongoing work at one of his ambitious project to prevent pollution in Nambul River on Friday.
Biren Singhinspected the project three months after its launch. The project 'Rejuvenationand Conservation of Nambul River which aims at controlling pollution of theNambul River by intercepting and treating urban waste originating in thestretch between Iroisemba and Heirangoithong through use of the water treatmentplant, Moving Bed Bio Reactor (MBBR) at Mongsangei and Samushang was launchedat Imphal Secretariat on March 9.
The 97.72crore project has been implemented by the Directorate of Environment, ManipurGovernment under the National River Conservation Plan of the Union Ministry ofEnvironment, Forest and Climate Change along with four other state governmentdepartments namely urban development, water resources, public healthengineering and state pollution control board with a phase wise targets inthree years time.
The ChiefMinister, while speaking to media persons also expressed the need to look intothe Naga River or nullah factor in making Nambul a clean river. He alsoappealed to the residents living along the Naga River stretch to help in achievingthe government's initiative.
