Margherita Pastor Arrested for Repeated Sexual Assault of 16-Year-Old Girl

A disturbing incident of sexual assault has emerged from Margherita in Tinsukia district, involving a Christian pastor accused of repeatedly raping a 16-year-old girl since many days.

The alleged perpetrator, identified as Pastor Isaac Hapat, resides in Panigaon, Ulup Pathar, under the Ketetong Gaon Panchayat in the 83rd Margherita constituency of Tinsukia district.

According to reports, the incident occurred on June 10 when Issac Hapat allegedly took advantage of his wife's absence to bring the minor to his home, as it is claimed that once he threatened and restrained the girl, subsequently subjecting her to repeated sexual assaults. 

The girl was reportedly kept in a state of fear, unable to seek help due to the threats made against her, as this situation highlights the grave misuse of trust and power, emphasising the need for vigilance in such environments.

The horrific incident came to light on 22nd June when the girl managed to escape and return to her family and upon noticing her deteriorating physical condition, her family questioned her, leading to the revelation of the assaults she had endured as her escape was a courageous act, shedding light on the terror she faced during her captivity. 

The bravery displayed by the victim is commendable and underscores the importance of support systems for survivors.

Following the revelation, the girl's family on Monday night promptly filed an FIR at the Margherita police station, as the family is demanding stringent action against Isaac Hapat, calling for capital punishment. 

A team from the Margherita police station, led by officer-in-charge Protap Gogoi, on Monday night detained Pastor Issac Hapat from his home and brought him to the Margherita police station. A case number 76/2025 US 64 BNS, R/W Section 6 of the POCSO Act 2012 have been registered at Margherita Police Station, and after being produced on Monday at Margherita sub-divisional magistrate court, Pastor Issac Hapat was sent to judicial custody in Tinsukia. 

The case has ignited a public outcry in the Margherita region, with many in the community rallying for justice and stronger protective laws for minors, as this incident has sparked significant debate about the adequacy of current legal frameworks in protecting vulnerable individuals.

The case has sent shockwaves through the local community, bringing attention to issues of safety and the alleged abuse of power within religious leadership as the incident highlights ongoing concerns about the vulnerability of minors and the need for stronger protective measures and community leaders are now advocating for educational programs to teach children about personal safety and how to report abuse.
