The Governmentof Assam has set May 1, 2020 as the deadline for the completion of solid wastemanagement plant at Lekai in Dibrugarh district.

ProjectDirector of Assam Urban Infrastructure Investment Programme (AUIIP), BinodSesan reviewed the ongoing solid waste management plant at Lekai on Tuesday.

DeputyCommissioner Pallab Gopal Jha participated in the review meeting along withother officials. The prime demand of Dibrugarh citizens is to set up a wastemanagement plant so that the people could get relief from the garbage relatedproblems in the town. Presently, Dibrugarh doesn't have scientific garbagedisposal system and the wastes are dumped at Maijan in an unscientific way.

In 2017, thestate government has sanctioned Rs. 48.49crore for the setting up of the solidwaste management plant at Lekai.

On Tuesday'sreview meeting DC Pallab Gopal Jha said that the state government has set adeadline on May 1, 2020 for the completion of solid waste management plant atLekai. Jha said. "A meeting was held at DC office regarding the ongoing work ofthe solid waste management plant and we are sure that the solid wastemanagement plant will solve the decade old age problem of garbage disposable inDibrugarh. The plant will be set up in 210 bigha plot of land."
