Thepeople of Assam observed Me-Dam-Me-Phi across the State on Friday to offertributes to the Ahom ancestors. People of all sections participate in therituals in different places. Traditional offerings were also made on theoccasion.
Theword 'Me' means offering, 'Dam' means ancestors and 'Phi' means gods. So theword 'Me-Dam-Me-Phi' means oblations offered to the dead and sacrifices togods.
AssamChief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal took to Twitter to extend his greetings onthis auspicious occasion. "May the blessings of the ancestors guide us inbuilding a united and strong Assam," he wrote.

CMSonowal will attend central Me-Dam-Me-Phi celebration in Charaideo. Also,former CJI Ranjan Gogoi and Editor-in-Chief of Pratidin Time NitumoniSaikia will attend another Me-Dam-Me-Phi celebration at Boarding Field inSivasagar.
