Around 10 people of Meghalaya who attended the Greenwood Resort wedding in the last week of June have reportedly tested positive for the virus.
As reported by local media, these cases have surfaced due to contact tracing being initiated by the Health Department in various parts of Shillong.
It is to be noted that lockdown has been clamped in Shillong for two days – July 13 and July 14 – to carry out contact tracing exercises.
The Greenwood Resort incident has become highly controversial in Meghalaya. As against 5 passes issued by the Meghalaya government, around 27 people came from Shillong to attend the wedding at Khanapara and went back.
The group has been accused of willful suppression of facts and violating the pandemic-induced protocols.
CM Conrad Sangma has already ordered for punishment for the violators who attended the wedding flouting all the rules in place, thereby putting the people of Shillong at risk. The total active cases in Meghalaya stood at 268 till the last official update.
