Northeast Will Witness Warm Winter: IMD

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted that Northeast India will have a warm winter this season.

According to a winter forecast (December 2019-February 2020)released by IMD on Friday, it is said that except for North, the rest of India willexperience a warmer winter.

The report further stated that in the North, the temperatures are expected to be in the normal range with days slightly chillier.

The IMD report also states that the average minimum temperaturesin the country, except in the western Himalayan states are likely to be higherthan normal adding that this will account for the warmer winter.

The IMD predicted that the average minimum temperatures in thenorth including Delhi-NCR are projected to be in +0.5 to -0.5 degree C on thepositive side. The IMD further stated that average day temperatures, however,are likely to be in the negative end of the normal range while the forecastshows above normal temperature in most parts of India except in the north.

The IMD has been releasing winter forecast reports since 2016 and according to it, 2018 was the warmest year globally.

The report also says that warm winter in the Northeast was out ofimagination till some years back, but things are changing fast.
