“One Day He’ll Be Behind Bars”: Gaurav Gogoi Slams CM Sarma After Temple Visit

Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) chief and Deputy Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, on Friday visited the historic Shri Shri Manasa Temple at Rani Chapori, under the newly restructured Jalukbari constituency. The temple visit, marked by traditional rituals and community interaction, soon turned political as Gogoi launched a fierce attack on Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Speaking to reporters after offering prayers, Gogoi said, “The Chief Minister is visibly unsettled. The way he keeps changing his statements every few hours shows how nervous he is.”

Referring to Rahul Gandhi’s recent remarks during his Assam visit, Gogoi said that the Congress leader had exposed the “illegal and unethical actions” allegedly committed by the CM and his family. “One day, the people of Assam will demand accountability. These media cameras will eventually show visuals of Himanta Biswa Sarma behind bars,” Gogoi claimed.

Taking a jibe at the BJP-led government’s demolition drives, Gogoi said, “Those who enjoy breaking the homes of others will never find peace in their own.”

On the controversy surrounding the Chief Minister’s alleged use of an obscene gesture during Rahul Gandhi’s rally, Gogoi said the incident had deeply resonated with the public. “Rahul Gandhi’s words have reached the people. The Chief Minister is afraid. That’s why his tone keeps shifting — from arrogance to panic.”

The Congress leader further alleged that key government welfare schemes in Assam were being misused to benefit a select few. “Those who have torn through every welfare scheme for their family's gain must now face public scrutiny and justice,” Gogoi said.

He also dismissed CM Sarma’s accusation that the Congress is acting as an "agent of George Soros" as a diversionary tactic. “Rahul Gandhi said exactly what needed to be said — and the Chief Minister heard every bit of it. But all he took away was the fear of going to jail,” he added.

“We even understand what goes on inside the Chief Minister’s household. The public is watching closely now,” Gogoi remarked cryptically, adding fuel to the escalating political confrontation.

Concluding his visit on a lighter note, Gogoi was seen sharing a cup of tea at a local roadside stall, engaging in informal conversations with residents.

His visit comes amid heightened political activity in Assam following Rahul Gandhi's recent tour and the Congress’ renewed push to reclaim ground ahead of the 2026 state elections.
