A web site run by former BBC East India correspondent Subir Bahumaik claims that ULFA Commander in Chief Paresh Barua is dead.
There is however no independent confirmation and in past several such stories were shoot down by Paresh Barua himself.
The Pratidin Time has not been able to independently verified the information yet.
The Website "Lookeast.in" wrote – Indian Intelligence agencies have picked up 'inputs' about ULFA–I military wing chief Paresh Barua having died after sustaining severe injuries in a road accident on Sino–Burmese border.
The Websites said – They say they are trying to confirm the 'inputs'. ULFA–I sources could not be immediately reached. Intelligence officials were unwilling to share details as yet but it is reliably learnt that they had picked up information about Barua's accident about a week ago through SIGINT(Signal intelligence) sources which were corroborated by HUMINT (Human Intelligence) source.

Barua is said to have fractured several ribs and a leg in the road accident.
But the exact spot of the accident is not known but is said to be around Ruili on the Sino–Burmese border- The Web Sites said.
"The accident is confirmed but we are trying to check on inputs that Barua has succumbed," one senior intelligence official said on condition of anonymity.
