Assam Assembly By-elections are near and so are all the political parties gearing up for their piece of cake. With Poll date released, political parties are now readying itself to show their best.

The BJP on Sunday announced its candidates for AssamAssembly by-elections. The party has fielded Bijay Malakar in Ratabari,Towfiqur Rahman in Jania, Rajen Borthakur in Rangapara and Nabanita Handique inSonari assembly constituencies.

The Congress party also announced its candidates' list forAssam Assembly by-elections. The party has fielded Keshab Prasad Rajak inRatabari, Shamsul Hoque in Jania, Kartik Kurmi in Rangapara and Sushil Suri inSonari assembly constituencies.

On the other hand, AIUDF will contest only in one constituency out of the total four constituencies; the party has fielded former MLA Rafiqul Islam from the Jania constituency. The bypolls to 4 assembly seats in the state will be held on October 21 and the counting of votes will be on October 24.

The candidates are likely to file their nomination papers either today or tomorrow.

In Rangapara, Congress candidate Kartik Kurmi will be accompanied by APCC President Ripun Bora during filing of his nomination papers.

In Sonari, Sushil Suri will be accompanied by APCC general Secretary Debabrata Saikia.

In Jania, Shamsul Hoque will be accompanied by MP AbdulKhalek and the MLAs of Barpeta district.

In Ratabari, Congress MLA from Karimganj North, Kamalakhya Dey Purkayastha and other senior leaders will accompany Keshab Prasad Rajak during filing of his nomination papers.
