Rakesh Paul has brought 22 properties worth Rs 100-150 crores in the posh areas of Kolkata and Guwahati from the money had made from giving jobs to the APSC selectee.
The list of properties was submitted by, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
"Paul himself owns 22 such properties, including residentialflats and plots, which have been listed in the enquiry report submitted to thecourt on Monday. After calculating his income and going through all therecords, it has been found that majority of the properties were bought afterPaul became the chairman of the APSC," CBI sources told the media.
The CBI has submitted the biggest ever list of properties,including benami properties, owned by Paul and his close relatives, which runsinto Rs 100 crores. These include several flats and plots owned by Paul inGuwahati and Kolkata, which had hitherto not come to the purview of theagencies probing the cash-for-job scam.
The annexure attached in the complete list submitted by theagency includes properties owned by Paul, his wife Sunanda Paul, his brotherRajib Paul and his brother-in-law among others.
"The report submitted by the CBI makes it evident that Paulhad amassed properties in and outside the State from the ill-gotten money,"sources pointed out.
Mr Paul used to take around Rs 10-15 lakh for each job, andhe has taken money for more than 200-300 people, and at least 80% of them havegot jobs and now working in various department of Assam without being caught.
The CBI will now seek permission from the Gauhati High Courtto lodge a formal first information report (FIR) against Paul to furtherinvestigate the matter.
"Most of the properties owned by Paul and his relatives arelocated in prime locations in Guwahati and some other States, sources stated,adding that once the court accepts the petition to file an FIR, the CBI willquestion all the accused including Paul and his wife.
The matter is expected to be heard by the court tomorrow oron Monday.
