Security beefed up for PM Modi’s Silchar visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday will launch BJP's campaign for Lok Sabha election from Silchar. The PM is set to address a public rally at Ramnagar, a spot adjacent to the Silchar bypass.

Police have been tightening security along the international border in Barak Valley in view of the PM's visit. Securities along the interstate borders are also being reviewed. Top police and administrative officials have visited the venue on Thursday and said, "We have been looking after security arrangements in view of the Prime Minister's visit."

According to sources, three lakh people would likely to attend the meeting. Besides the PM, Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal, State BJP president Ranjeet Kumar Dass and other senior party leaders will address the gathering on Friday.
